Strengthening foundational learning is a priority within our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. Across many rural communities, schools continue to face significant challenges such as shortages of teachers, inadequate classrooms, limited learning materials, and the absence of basic facilities such as sanitation infrastructure. These gaps undermine educational outcomes and overall student wellbeing.
Through our CSR activities, we are committed to improving learning conditions, enhancing civic awareness, and supporting longterm educational growth in the communities surrounding our operations.
Addressing Critical Needs in Rural Schools
Our education initiatives focus on practical interventions that remove barriers to learning which include sanitation improvements, academic support, school infrastructure rehabilitation, environmental awareness activities, and teacher support programmes.
Each initiative is designed to uplift students, empower educators, and ensure schools have the foundational resources needed to thrive.
Key CSR Projects
1. Improving sanitation facilities in schools
Many schools within our host communities lack even a single functional toilet. To address this, we are constructing sanitation facilities in Ayetimbo, Makinde, Ago Alafia and Leege.
These facilities will improve hygiene, enhance student dignity, and help reduce absenteeism particularly among female students.
2. Academic Competitions & Scholarship Programmes
To encourage academic excellence and build confidence among students, we are supporting debates, quiz competitions, learning material distribution and providing scholarship programmes. These are going to be provided in secondary schools in and around the concession area (Kajola).
These activities foster critical thinking, creativity, and motivation among rural learners.
3. School Rehabilitation & Renovation
Providing safe and functional learning spaces is essential. We are supporting:
- Renovation of school blocks for Kajola Secondary School (based on needs assessment)
- Completion of the examination hall for Community High School, Mobolorunduro Mile 49
These improvements create a more conducive learning environment and relieve long-standing infrastructure gaps.
4. Environmental Education
We conduct community sensitisation initiatives and celebrate international environmental days, fostering environmental stewardship and longterm sustainable mindsets.
5. Teacher Support
Teachers remain central to learning outcomes. To strengthen rural education systems, we provide support to community volunteer teachers across target schools. This ensures schools can maintain continuity in teaching and reduce classroom pressures.
Our Commitment to Educational Advancement
Strong communities start with strong schools. Through targeted investments and long-term planning, our education support initiatives aim to:
- Improve learning environments
- Reduce educational inequalities
- Strengthen student engagement
- Empower educators
- Enhance civic and environmental awareness
By aligning our CSR efforts with community needs, we are contributing to a future where rural children have equal access to quality education and the opportunity to realise their full potential.
